Gravity Casting via Shell Moulding

Molten metal is poured into a mould shell made from a special sand. Clear fins are necessary for proper cooling. Quality requires wear resistance, strength, hardness without brittleness, and a fine grain structure free of blow holes and casting defects.

Machining

Turning, phasing and boring to precise dimensions with consistent wall thickness. The last operation is bore honing on a Hydraulic Vertical honing double-expansion machine to achieve the required R.A. values and cross-honing lines for oil film retention.
