Cylinder Block / Barrels are available in Finned type or Non finned casted body type. Natural Cast Finish, Powder paint coated finish, Black phosphate finish.

Cylinder Block / Barrels with Piston Assy. form the heart of the engine and are very critical components for the running and the performance of the engine. Care is to be taken for the correct size and the correct material while producing this product.

Casting

The Cylinder blocks / Barrels are gravity cast by the shell molding process. The molten metal is poured into a mold shell made of special sand. The casting should have clear Fins as they are responsible for the cooling of the Cylinder Block / Barrels.

A good quality casting is very important for the quality of the Cylinder Block / Barrel The Cylinder Block / Barrel functional requirement is to be wear-resistant (not to be worn cut easily). It should have strength, and hardness but not too hard. Very hard Cylinder Block / Barrel will become brittle (and break) and may chip off easily.

The Cylinder Block / Barrel should have all the properties of wear resistance, strength, hardness, toughness, corrosion resistance, no blow holes, a fine grain structure, etc. The casting Alloy should be low in Sulpher. The Alloy should have carbon in a controlled percentage plus Silicon, Chromium, Manganese, Molybdenum, and Nickel along with other elements to make a good quality casting.

Machining

The next step is to machine the casting. Operation of turning, phasing, and boring are done to accurate size. Care is also taken for an even wall thickness of the Cylinder Block / Barrel. The last operation is bore horning, which we do on Hydraulic Vertical horning - double expansion machine to achieve R.A. values.

The cross-horning lines are important to retain an oil film in the Cylinder Block / Barrels. Not too much oil film (or the engine will give smoke) and not less (or it will become hot and also wear out very fast).
